Passengers under the age of 18

Whether your child is traveling alone or with you, we recommend that you check the entry and travel requirements for minors by contacting the necessary embassies or consulates. This applies to your child’s destination country/countries or those through which your child has a connecting flight.

Any passenger under 18 years old, whether they are a French citizen or a foreigner living in France, must provide an authorization to leave the territory form for any journey outside France without a parent or legal guardian.

Depending on the destination country, the minor must have :

  • an identity card or passport (with a visa if required)
  • an authorization to leave the territory form signed by a parent or legal guardian
  • a photocopy of a valid identity document of the parent or legal guardian who signed the authorization to leave the territory form

All French minors must possess an identity document (passport or national identity card, depending on the destination). The identity document must be in their name. Children are not allowed to travel on a parent's passport.

Important: the family record book, known as the French "livret de famille", is not an identity document. A minor is therefore not allowed to travel by plane using the family record book as an identity document, even on flights within Metropolitan France.

For trips to or within Europe, all European minors* must have a personal national identity document (passport or national identity card, depending on the destination). A minor must have a passport if the trip requires one. They are not allowed to travel on a parent's passport. * All European minors must have a personal identity document. This does not apply to minors from the United Kingdom, Ireland or Denmark.

To travel to/from Brazil for children born in Brazil, a valid Brazilian passport is required, as well as the required documents listed on the page in the link below. This requirement pertains to all Brazilian nationals, whether their parents are Brazilian or from a country other than Brazil, and whether they are traveling alone, with both parents, or with only one parent. Any child of Brazilian nationality* must be accompanied by an adult. Minors, whether they are accompanied by one parent or a legal guardian, as well as children using the Kids Solo service, must provide an authorization to leave the country to travel. An accompanying adult (who is neither a parent nor a legal guardian) is allowed to travel with one baby (who is up to 1 year and 11 months old). A second accompanying adult is, therefore, necessary if you wish to travel with two babies**. * Up to 11 years and 11 months of age for flights to/from Metropolitan and Overseas France, and up to 15 year of age for international flights. ** This rule does not apply if the accompanying adult is the parent or legal guardian.

Minors traveling to or from South Africa must be in possession of the official documents required by the South African authorities. This rule applies in the following cases: - the minor is traveling alone, regardless of nationality, - the minor is of South African nationality, whether accompanied or not.
